Overclocking a XP-M- help please

Hi guys.

I have an Athlon XP-M 2400 in an NF7-S which is currently clocked at 1.8ghz. I wanna try overclocking it to see what sort of speed I can get out of it.

I tried to overclock it to 2ghz (200x10) but it only lasts for a few mins before rebooting. The temps seem fine, volts are at 1.575. I'm using DDR400 ram btw.

Any suggestions on what I can change to get a stable overclock?

have you got the v2 board,the ram wont work in nf7s vanilla at 400?
Got a decent cooler on it?
what ram exactly please?
Also what bios are you running?

What volts are those referring to?theyre to low for stable cpu.Please recheck using cpu-z or something.
 
The board is the V2 version.
The cooler is an Aero 7 Lite (i think)
The ram is Kingston 512MB PC3200 (cl3)

I'm running the latest bios from the Abit site, not sure what the number is.
 
get one of the mod bios from tictac or merlin d27 is a good one.youll need the correct sata driver to go with whatever modded bios you choose,if you dont have ide.
you can still overclock with this one though.


set everything at overclock defaults,turn off any throttling,set ram timings to expert then set default ram timiings.Find a ram slot that is the most stable,you might have to try them all.

vcore could be 1.6-8 for max clock, so see what temps you get at 1.6
vdimm at 2.8

The ram is probably your bottleneck so you might have to run a 5/6 divider when upping multi,to find max cpu,once you know what slots best.trying to overclock with 1:1 settings can make your ram possibly unstable.do you know what your max ram clock is?

try this and if you cant get it stable ,please spell out what bios settings youve got for the cpu page and ram page.
 
get the tictac bios m8 i use that on my dfi nf2 board and am running 2.7ghz @ 270x10 @1.7v and its @ full load 24/7 as i use it for my home server
 
your normal barton needed 1.65vcore to do 11*200.

you were only using 1.575v, hence i think you need to up the volts.

lower the multi and up the fsb, see what you can get :D
 
On my lads machine i run his 2500XP-m at 1.7V with 2x512 at 200FSB and a 12 multi giving 2.4Ghz. Dont run a divider (you dont need to with DDR3200 RAM) a this kills performance on NF2/AMD XP systems.

sry just abit sceptical(sp?) with 2.7ghz and only 1.7volt specialy with 270fsb

what ram and volts?

show us some superi, might tempt me into clocking mine further
 
I'm with you on that one DaZzZa.

The DFI Infinity board would have to be volt modded and 270fsb would be a record. At least 1.9v would be needed for that speed.

I've got some of that Mushkin XP4000 stuff on the way, 2x1GB so I think I'll wait out till then to try.

Any ideas on what sort of speeds I should be aiming for?

think you'll chip will be the limit as the memory is fine for 250fsb.

would imagine 210-220 as a minumum.

also check for the L12 mod, it changes the chip from a 166fsb to 200fsb iirc so helps with the overclock.
 
Not required for the XP-M's :p You should be able to get 2.5Ghz without breaking a sweat - bit of an overkill on that memory, but hey - at least you've got something to take with you when you eventually upgrade ;)

Ideally you want to set the FSB between 220 and 230, then play with the multi to find your best clock - as Weescott said - temp is a must-check item, that's what'll stop you clocking!

USE MEMTEST!!! Can't stress that enough - and look for something as close to 2,2,2,11 on the timings as you can (don't play with the 11 - just don't- and don't use a Cas latency above 2.5 - not liked by that mobo!)

Otherwise, yeah - put the chipset voltage as high as it will go, keep the cpu at/below 1.8v and see what suits the memory best! - that overclocking linky will give you hours of joy - use it well :D
 
lol that overclock is lie's imo

why-o-why do ppl come onto these forum and boast such a stupidly high overclock must think we are muppets

no socket A board/cpu is capable of 270fsb 2700mhz 24/7 on 1.7v that i am quite sure of highest clocked xp on the orb is 2932mhz with 225 fsb thats by OPPAINTER. i very much doubt you have 270fsb so do yourself a favor and save the flaming/shame/embarrassment and just edit it to a realistically believable overclock lets say 230x10.5? that way people might believe you :)

anyway to try and keep this tread on topic,

try upping the volts to the cpu a few more, the ram you can also try maybe 2.8volts should help stable things out abit

lol carnt resist another nag,.. why do ppl put @ instead of "at" you still have to press 2 keys..... :confused: fair one it saves space in sigs lol but forum posts?

the reason i suggested he may want to use a divider is so he may quickly find the max fsb/ multi combo with his standard ram.Not so he can show off the benchies.Or spend all night long tweaking various bios with ram settings.

twas just a suggestion....But then he bought the muskins!!! :D

what ram do you lot use to get high clocks with 2*512mb

my nf7 would do 235 with 2*256 but almost nothing at 2*512


yes i have screenies to prove :D;)
 
I got 235fsb with 2 x 512mb of Kingston HyperX PC3500 (not BH5). on my old NF7-S.

Maybe you were just unlucky Matt82.
