Overclocking advice

Hi Guys,

Honestly thank your for all your advice, even if some of it did not make sense to me. I would like to do a moderate overclock at first and then maybe push it to 4Ghz when I get more confident. Just so you guys get an idea of why I may be struggling with what you are saying ive included some screen shots of FOX One, the program that comes with the motherboard. The rest is just because im a noob. :)

Im sorry if im not getting it, but I do not know what QPI is, how to find what DRAM frequency or voltage ratings I have. With the screenies ive put up what should I be looking at?

Well you've said you wish to do it but you are not wishing to beast it.....

Then you ask if you stick it up to 4.0Ghz will that be ok. 4.0Ghz is a 50% overclock for the chip. Plain terms, thats beasting it.

GO low to start. What monitoring programs have you available? I like everest ultimate, it states most things and has a few semi-useful benchmark utilities.

I'd suggest you use whatevere program you have and record all the data for your system under stock configuration.

Then do a 10% OC by altering the BLCK, thats the 133 number, nudge it up to 147 or similar, and adjust the ram frequency to match cloest to your 1333 ram. Rerun all the stat tests, and see what you've achieved.

SuperPi is an easy method of plotting performance increases for the core of the system.

Yeah , take it slowly. Every persons system reacts differently to various settings. I firmly believe 4GHZ is obtainable with your setup but doing it bit by bit helps you understand things better EG , voltage / temp rises / fsb - actual clock. You will learn a great deal im sure.

I have never attempted overclocking at all before, and I really dont understand half of what you guys are saying, I mean there are so many things that can be changed its mind boggling.

So to start I should crank the BLCK to 147 and then move the ram frequency upto 1333Mhz is that it?

What about the voltages for example?
 
Look, try this:

1) Set the QPI frequency to the lowest of the three options.
2) Set BCLK to 166MHz
3) Set DRAM frequency to the closest frequency to what it's rated for without going over it.
4) Set DRAM voltage to whatever it's rated to run at.

Try that, you shouldn't need to change any other voltages. If you're looking for a moderate overclock, you're probably done. If you wanna go higher, try bumping up the BCLK to 175MHz and then in 5MHz steps until it either fails (in which case try upping the VCore 1 step at a time) or the temps get too high for your liking (in which case lower the VCore 1 step at a time). At each stage run tests for stability (e.g. 10 hours of Prime95 or IntelBurnTest).
