Hi all I'm looking at buying a laptop which is the MSI GP72 7RE I'm alittle concerned that it may have. Been overclocked and pushed past the point of no return so to speak is there any way I can find out if it has i got told it shorts the life of the cpu and gpu can somone please shed some light on this tia

It's a possibility
Would somewhat depend on the method used
And whether that method allowed excessive voltages
Things like msi afterburner for example
Usually only allow a small voltage increase to gpu
But if bios allows cpu voltage change or software does
Usually you can increase voltage to a point
Where it could definitely be bad
Never had a laptop that allowed overclocking
So can only go by all the desktop cpus and gpus I have had
I never exceeded a reasonable voltage increase
And it didn't seem to affect lifespan
My old 2600k cpu for example as that allowed 50% overclocking unlike modern cpus
Ran at 5ghz from the default 3.4ghz
Was still running 10 years later

So short answer
Yes it could the more voltage put through the silicon
Could lead to more degradation

A video on the subject, if OP has an hour to blow:

If you are a heavy gamer on a laptop. I'd be careful.

Keyboard will give out if hammered so use external keyboard like a PC.

My Pennies worth. But, It would mean hammering it to death.
