Hi I'm just wondering if its possible to overclock my cpu other than through the bio's is there and programmes I can download to do it?

Xtreme System forums have a lot of knowledgeable people so I'd try there after here - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forum.php
Oh and don't be surprised if you get the usual idiots saying "get an i3, i5, i7".

Only idiot is you, absolutely no reason to bring that attitude in this thread. Reason people say get i5/i7 is because they're simply better for gaming, just because you've blown more money on your lower performing AMD set up doesn't give you the right to be a prat.
XS care for maximum clock pretty much, actually stability means nothing there.

OP what is your motherboard? There are some programs in Windows to clock AMD CPU's (Usually motherboard vendor stuff)
But you're best off through the BIOS.

If you look at downloads > Utilities there's Asus Turbo Evo.
It's a decent enough application, can be used to get a clock and then you can save them to BIOS once you're happy.
Can change multiplier (Which is why you have a BE), HTLink (Bus speed) and voltages.
What cooler you got too OP? I'd be aiming at anywhere from 3.8 - 4GHZ with a present day 965 BE.

It's best to do it via BIOS. I tried AMD overdrive with my 965, but couldn't get it 3.8ghz stable. Via BIOS I was able to get it 3.8ghz on stock volts with no problems.

BIOS overclocking is usually more stable than software overclocking. Besides, all you need to do is change the multiplier and voltages when needed.

Did i call you an idiot ? no, reel your neck back in and give your head a wobble.
I didn't blow any money, i do part time work in a computer shop and this is the rig I use all the time so lose the attitude.

Lets not get into this, although you were the one with the ; Oh and don't be surprised if you get the usual idiots saying "get an i3, i5, i7". Which if it was a suggestion thread would be exactly the type of response I'd give.
At any rate, either help the OP or don't.
Don't need to justify your AMD purchase to me either.

Agreed, i meant the xtreme forum people, every response they give to AMD is, get an i3/i5/i7 instead etc...
Oh and no way in hell would i buy an FX, i get to use this thing free of charge, while i save up for the next round of intel cpu's and the next top end ROG board ^^

But you're the one who linked him to the site in the first place, that's kind of confusing since you think it's full of idiots.
Since you've got it free, that's okay I guess, but you replaced a perfectly fine Thuban which was better for gaming.

True and true again but the people on there know their stuff even if they are a little moronic at times.
