Basically my cpu is clocked at 2.6 atm and i want to overclock it but ive never done it before on my own usually ive had other people do it and just leave them to it, just wanted some hints and tips on how to go about doing it and what a safe level will be, i dont really need to worry about overheating because my fan and heatsink are overkill for what i have atm.

i'll ask for them . What are you full specs of your computer and also your heatsink. Mobo and ram also play a huge part in over clocking . You may think you have an overkill heat sink but up your voltages a bit and you may find it not so much overkill.

i managed to get it to 3.4 but after about 5 mins it BSOD on me, but with that i changed the bus frequencey aswell so i reverted that back to 200 and but my voltage at 16, ill see how this goes and if it keeps working ill see about putting it upto 16.5 and where i can go from there

How did you get on

Saw this post as I am looking to upgrade my 9950, been running mine for a couple of years @ 3.12Ghz (13x240) biggest challenge for me was keeping temps in check, I have a 65nm 140w 9950 which needed 1.5v for the overclock, it runs high clocks but like yourself gets a bit unstable, I put a water cooler on it and it was fine, will run all day long full load and not hit 50oC

It's all about incremental increases. I haven't massively overclocked my chip because I can't be bothered with the hassle of stability testing. If you're at 3.4 then try 3 with a bit less voltage and keep a good eye on the temps.
