Hi guys,

I am looking to overclock an AMD A10 5800k from 3.8ghz to around 4.2ghz.

I also would like to overclock the on-board GPU to 1000MHz.

Could anyone advise where to start?

I already have an aftermarket cooler which should get rid of the heat.

Thanks!

That's a pretty mild overclock on both which you should get away with just increasing the frequencies and not the voltages.

What motherboard do you have?

In the bios you just have to do the following,
For the CPU just increase the multiplier from x40 to x42, then boot into your OS and run prime95 until it throws up an error, BSoD or you are satisfied with the stability. If it throws up errors or BSoD then you need to increase the voltage (offset voltage ideally) in small increments (e.g. +0.012 each time) until you get the desired stability.

For the GPU just up the frequency to 1000 (or the nearest increment available), then boot into your OS and run 3dmark or Haven and do the same as the CPU to find stability.

Do them separately because if there is a problem it's easier to track it back to which setting you adjusted last.

Edit - Also keep an eye on temperatures to make sure the heatsink is installed and operating correctly. I found my motherboards utility to be the best. HWMonitor and pretty much all other 3rd party software is dreadfully inaccurate for Trinity chips it seems.
