I have just upgraded my graphics card from a 6600GT to an 8800GT as the 6600GT couldnt cope with my new monitor. I am currently running a Q6600 at 3.6ghz and its watercooled. So too now is the 8800GT.
I have now started overclocking the 8800GT using rivatuner and have so far arrived at the following figures. core - 700, shader - 1755, mem - 990.
With these settings it has completed 3Dmark 06 with a score of 15358 and cpu score of 5596. Any good ? (thats the free download one not the full version. Should I buy that so I can change the resolution to that of my monitor ?)
I have also been using ATI Tool also to scan for artifacts and so far it has been clear.
Where I would like help is what else can I do to check the card is safe at these settings. I am currently downloading the demo of Crysis as that is what a lot of people seem to use. What else can I do ?

Surely if you can run ATI Tool for a period of time without getting artifacts then you're ok?

Just monitor the temps I guess, if it get's ridiculous or you get artifacts then reduce it a little. Play some games, see how it goes.

I didnt know if ATI Tools would be sufficient as it is only a little box with a fuzzy block that doesnt move. It doesnt give me the impression its actually doing anything ? Temps have never risen above 47c and thats after 3 hours of running 3D mark and ATI Tools to check various clocks.

I suppose a real test would be as you said, to run something like Crysis. That should give it a nice test :)

If youve ran multiple loops of 06 and ati tools without artifacts things are looking good, 47c is a great temp, have a play about with this tool, should give the card a good workout.

Then give it a few solid hours of gaming.:)

that benchmark kinda made me laugh looked like a mouldy cheerio lol

well my measley set up got me a max FPS of 41 and a 27 AVG mark score 1305
lol:mad:

I have a Gainward 8800GT Golden Sample, and am running clock speeds of 740/990/1875, this is on air and get temps of around 49ish...

So indeed if yours is watercooled, why dont you clock it up...

Yeah Crysis (demo) in a 5/10/20 loops run should give you a good idea if the clock is stable or not, I found that while some games and 3Dmark would work fine Crysis would hard lock if the Core or Shader were pushed a bit too far! :)

When running 3D mark last night I noticed that if I went over 705 on the core and 990 on the mem then the score started to drop by a hundred + points so ive stuck to 700 core and mem 985 which gave me the highest score. As for the shader clock I wasnt too sure how far I can push it safely.
I had ATI Tools running over night and it went 621 mins with no artifacts.
Will try the fur test when I get home tonight.
