Guys after a while of having my AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+ at stock speed (2.6ghz), I've decided to try my hand at overclocking it. I'm a bit of a wimp though, and afraid to try it (the nightmare of my computer blowing up is a common one I'm sure). Would anyone give me a few hints as to what kind of speed i could acheive with it with a Zalman Aero flower Heat sink on it?

those CPU's don't overclock much, if at all. however you may get another 200mhz with that hsf and some extra volts.

you can't immediately damage the CPU from overclocking it; if it gets too hot then it will just decrease the life of the chip over time.

well, I'd be happy with 2.8ghz on them, 3ghz if possible. I'm not going massive overclocks, this one needs to last me a while =)

You will only need a small FSB increase to clock the CPU at 2.8Ghz so I wouldn't imagine you need to tweak anything else. But just in case lower the HTT multi to 4 and set a mem divider. Increase the voltage if it's unstable, I wouldn't go over 1.5V without decent cooling.
