I have a HTPC which I run with Windows 7 RC1. I play most of my media on it with XBMC which doesn't do hardware decoding so I am left with brute force for 1080p playback. The 4050e in my HTPC stuggles with 1080p MKVs so I was thinking of updating.
I was thinking of dropping in a new low wattage Phenom II but then I thought about overclocking the 4050e. It runs at 2.1Ghz at the moment. I have a GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard in there at present with stock cooler. The case I have doesn't have much airflow so I am loathe to do anything that will increase temps too much.
Any idea how much extra muscle I need to get the 1080p playing? If I bump it to 2.5 will that do it?
Anyone done this before and can offer any guidance? (I am a bit of a newb to overclocking)
