Overclocking an E2140

Hi dudes.

This has probably been asked a billion times before but without a search feature..... I dunno

To overclock an E2140, my chum said I just need to up the FSB and leave the multiplier alone, is this true ?
The mobo is a Gigabyte P35C DS3R.

Just one thing, is the E2140

A) 200FSB 8x multiplier
B) 800FSB 2x multiplier

Different places I look say sifferent things

Really well actually.
The 200FSBx8 = 1.6ghz has now become 370FSBx8 = 2.96ghz

Its only the memory holding me back now, I believe the CPU can go MUCH further (in the right mobo)
My memory is 667mhz and I can't get it past 740mhz without instability setting in.

Still, I can't complain. 3ghz from a £45 CPU is not too shabby
(oh and you might need a good heatsink)

Indeed it is.
Although people keep banging on about this Crucial Balistix 5300 memory that you can push up to about 800+ mhz

Off the top of my head I think I tried an extra 0.2v but got no benefit and with no heatspreaders I didn't want to crank it up higher and keep it high

There's a weird secret menu that can allow you to manually set your timings, but 2x is the lowest memory multiplier you can have.

If you know of another secret option, I'd love to hear about it

Kept it at stock

That mobo is a bit weird as it doesn't tell you what its set at.
You can choose "normal" or +0.1 +0.2 etc...
It never says what normal is.


As for my menory.
I have...
Corsair 2GB DDR2 Value Select PC5300C5 Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) (VS2GBKIT667D2)
I may give those timings a go and see if I can get to 920mhz too.

That would potentially give me a 3.6ghz CPU
