Hi all,

I'm going to be overclocking my E6600 this weekend. I'm a total n00b to overclocking so I'm going to read round and educate myself before doing so.

My question is this: this thing runs stock at 2.4Ghz. What kind of increase do you think I could squeeze out of it? I'm working with 3GB of pc6400 RAM, a 650w corsair PSU and a Gigabyte 965P DS3. Oh - last but not least I should mention an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.

it varies by chip, but 3ghz shouldn't take a lot of effort.

remember to red the stickied guide on overclocking :)

I would expect at least 3.2-3.4Ghz with 1.4v but keep an eye on the temps. Mine does 3.8Ghz with 1.425v on water but is a good stepping as well.

Most, if not all E6600's did 3.0-3.1ghz on stock voltage. Should do atleast 3.4ghz with half-decent cooling. Anything over 3.5ghz depended on the chip as most needed a huge voltage boost to get to 3.6ghz.

Also try the 8x multi especially with that ram

8x400= 3.2 and your ram a 800 1:1 will give better preformance that
9x360= 3.24 and your ram at 810 1:1.25
9x380= 3.42 also works well as you can reduce the volts on your ram to 1.8-1.9v or
8x425= 3.4 with a small oc on the ram at 850
9x400= 3.6 nice stable clock if you can get it - but will need volts on cpu and NB

My E6600 would do 8x450 on that board but need over 1.5v and extra NB cooling

I run 389*9 @ 3501 Mhz 24/7 with 1.5v and RAM @ 1:1 so ever so slightly underclocked. Yeah a lot of volts but it's the heat thats the killer really and mine idles 25-32 depending on room temp and max 65 under Orthos small fft's and blend < Stable for 8 hours at least which is good enough for me.

First overclock seems to be going well at 1:1, CPU is at 2.7Ghz.

Stress testing now and getting 60c-62c for both cores. Is this OK?

EDIT - OK, the test just came up with this:

What could be wrong? I can't locate 'stress.txt'

You should unlink your ram and just overclock your CPU. I have an e6600 with 4gb of 6400 and mine is set right now to unlinked, so the ram is at 800 and the CPU is set 375/1500 giving a over clock of 3375 at 1.4 volts.
