Right.. as im a complete tard when it comes to overclocking lol, can anyone give me a few tips as to what to change when it comes to the basics.. this new asus bios screen is confusing me i cant seem to find any easy bit to change. and i dont really want to use the asus tool thing lol

It's reasonably easy with the i5 2500k. Just change the multiplier to 43 and see if that is stable.
If it's not you can either try a little lower or increase the voltage as required. There are a number of guides available for Asus P67 motherboards

You are seeing the effects of speedstep - reducing the processor down to 1.6Ghz when your PC doesn't need the power. You shouldn't be seeing this when your processor usage is high though. It can be disabled in the BIOS, but its useful to conserve energy when your PC is idle.

ive whacked everything back on stock because it seems a bit weird, the voltage was 1.288 at 3.7, i dont know if its high or not, seemed . but was the same at 4.3ghz, and i was only playing trials 2 on steam at the minute while i redownload l4d2, also the bus speed was 103.00mhz which from reading other posts is wrong. when on trials, it would vary between 1.6/4.3, switching time to time, i take it this is normal though lol
The bus speed is 100 at default but the Asus auto overclocking tools can push this up. It's not worth the small gains this brings as it can make your PC unstable.
The voltage being under 1.3v means it would not be an issue. I think the highest sensible limit is around 1.38v

You should manually set your vcore, vtt and pll. At 100 X 42 I would start at 1.3vcore, 1.16vtt (every board has a sweetspot so you may need to raise/lower this value) 1.8pll. The if you manage to boot into windows run prime blend for 30 mins or so. Then up the multiplier. When you do get a BSOD, raise the vcore 0.01 and try again. Let us know when you get to <= 1.38 vcore.
i have got same motherboard mate, its bit more fiddly getting overclocking but i Oc my i5 2500k to 4.4ghz at 1.3V.

You can not i repeat can not manually set Vcore, all you can do is adjust Max turbo voltage (the extra voltage thats pulled through the cpu when you go into turbo mode)
increasing this Max turbo voltage by +0.08 to get stability
My settings are
44 Multiplier(on each core) and Max turbo voltage 0.2
you can only see the "max turbo voltage" if you go into the cpu setting option in the advanced bios settings
I wish there was more info about this motherboard, my initial research before buying this board came up with nothing.
Kind of weird Asus selling a board for unlocked cpu (i5 2500k) but not letting you adjust cpu voltage directly, really weird.
Its like they dont want you to overclock.. with a baord designed to overclock lol!
I always recommend now NOT to get p8p67-m board, so much less hassle going for something from gigabyte/msi etc. or going for pro version (p8p67 pro)
you can overclock cpu we just have to jump through a few more hoops to get it done, and have a lot less tweaking options.
i5 [email protected] 4.4ghz is still considerable boost in performance
PS: we have like exactly same pc lol except i went with haf 912 case ^.^

hi guys, im a bit of a noob to overclocking. overclocked my i3 530, to 3.7ghz. with my gigabyte H55M-UD2H mb. using a guide on utube..had it running stable for 6 months no problem. just got myself a i5 760, and upgraded my ram to 8gb of ddr3 1600mhz. and nothing i try will let me overclock it..this is the video link i used on my i3, {it was for the i5}http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Llqhe3N1cJA&feature=relmfu it just wont boot with these settings...has anybody got any ideas??????thinking of going back to my i3 if i cant get this i5 to clock...thanks guys..

hey got it to 3.7ghz...seemed to be the memory multiplier..they advised it to be set at 8.0.but it just wouldnt boot.set it to auto and seems ok..cpu clock ratio 20x,,qpi clock ratio x32, bclk frequency 185. voltage 1.2....its running idle temps of 38c and 70c with prime 95. are them temps ok???? friend advised that because its a new cpu that it will take a while for thermal paste to settle down...any advise would be most helpful..

Im thinking i may need a more powerful psu??? mabye the 700wat..but this 500wat has been running fine with my i3.

, my motherboard actually died.. so your right lol, im not very pleased with it.. havent had a pc in about 2weeks now. -_- hoping if its Found faulty by OcUK (have already rma'd it) i can get them to change it for a new board maybe the z68 ones and i put the extra money towards it.. not sure if they do this though so might be stuck with that piece of cack!
