overclocking an i7 920

Would anyone be so kind as to give me a bit of a guide into what I need to do to overclock my i7 (1366, x58) as I havent got a clue

Hi there, assuming you mean the i7 920 in the title.

May ask if you have the C1/C0 or D0 stepping of this chip (as it affects how you go about overclocking it)? You can check using CPU-Z.

Also, do you have an aftermarket cooler or just the stock one? If it's just the stock one then I wouldn't suggest overclocking until you get a new cooler as these s1366 chips are very hot and they get much hotter when overclocked.

Also, may I ask what exact motherboard make and model you are using?

Hi mate, no idea how that typo happened in the title haha!

Its CO/C1 rev, the board is an Asus P6T deluxe and the cooler will be a corsair h60 (not bought yet

)

If you have low-profile RAM then I would strongly suggest going for this cooler over the H60 - its cooler and quieter.
