A customer placed an order for one of these servers with 2 x Xeon 8 Core 16 thread processors in. So I jumped at the chance to build it with a view to having a go at clocking these very powerful processors.
The spec of the server is here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-141-OP&groupid=2439&catid=2440&subcat=
You will see the cooling is only air which is more than enough for 24/7 but I was determind to up the speeds even with a non overclocking motherboard. With these chips you can only overclock via BLK.
Memory timings where imporatant when benching and in general the board did not like much more than DDR1600 as the link between the two CPU's became abit flackey above 104blk. With BLK being the only way to overclock the CPU's memory speed had to be sacrificed as did timings.
here are the results from the testing which focussed on Wprime which is a multi thread bench that likes 32 threads to chew on!!!1

Overall not bad a fifth and third on HWbot which is enough to spark my interest further to go for gold using a more overclocking friendly setup based around an SR-X and water cooled CPU's plus very high quality overcclocking RAM. When I get my hands on this I will produce a full set of benchies and hopefully show off some more silverware
When it comes to raw power and speed even with modest overclocks and some tuning to RAM this was an amazing system.
