I have been wondering how overclocking CPU's effects it's lifespan.

I know that watercooling and keeping the CPU temps down dramatically reduces and wear and tear however how will it effect its overall life span?

I'm currently overclocked my I7 930 to 4.0ghz and i have had it running at a stable temperature since i overclocked it about 9 months or so ago. However i never thought about how it might effect the lifespan of the chip.

I'm not only interested in the life-span of my chip but of CPU's in general when oerclocked in this way.

Any info would be great

Thanks

I dont think it's very well known, because basically, heavily overclocked stuff still lasts way longer than you want it!

....or even unknown ;) The thing is nobody can tell you how long it will last as there are simply way too many things to consider such as the overclock amount, voltage, silicon quality, temperature fluctuations, to name but a few. Each scenario is different as is each cpu and setup.
