Overclocking ASUS 780?

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to overclocking, I bought an ASUS GTX 780 last week and have the asus GPU tweak program. I have it at a stable overlcock of 1090Hz on the GPU boost clock and 6400Hz on the memory clock. I noticed artifacts on Unigine if I go any higher. I saw that there is a voltage tweak option there too which is at the default 1150.
What does the voltage tweak do? Is it safe to fiddle with?
