Hi all
I recently shoved an i5 2500k in my pc. Having eventually managed to get it to overclock to 4.5ghz I find I get random BSOD's. The error code suggests that it is due to voltage to the cpu. Having played around with this, with no success, I eventually reset my overclock settings back to auto and only change the multiplier to 45. Thinking the pc can handle the rest. I still get random BSOD's. I then try dropping the multiplier down to 40 and the same still happens. Currently I put it back to stock as I can't fathom a solution. The only pattern to the BSOD's is when I load my flight sim and this starts to load my pc but as for when they happen this is random. It doesn't appear to be the software.
The only thing that springs to mind is my power supply. I have a 650w PS although it is old. The cpu power is a 4 pin cable and I understand it is now an 8pin cable. Could the fact that i have a 4 pin cable be the issue that the PS isn't supplying enough juice?
I have 2 radeon r9 270x gpu's soaking up a bit of power.
Pc spec
Asrock fatal1ty z77 performance mobo
I5 2500k
16gb corsair vengeance ddr3 1333
2 120gb ssd
1 320gb hdd
About 10 case fans
Corsair hdro cooler
2 radeon r9 270x in crossfire
650w power supply
2 dvd rw
The odd usb peripheral here and there.
Thanks
Tom
