Just curious if anyone else has the issue where they get to the point their gpu overclock is too high? I can push my gpu to 1280/1550 without really trying but it seems to work best at 1170/1510

Everything over seems to negatively effect performance in things like benchmarks and games

I know some people will say its unstable but trust me it isn't! Even overvolting has no effect

is there such a thing as being past the max? i'm a little inexperienced in gpu overclocking.. with cpu's i know you get diminishing returns once you're over a certain point but it never just wrecks performance the higher you go if its stable

hadn't considered temps! benching got it up to about 70 degrees but i wouldn't really consider that too warm :/

EEC memory on the ram?

Have that on 6950s and if you push to far error checking kicks in ,no artifacts but scores drop.

Core was different though....that would cause crash/artifacts if pushed too far.

Two things to consider with RAM overclocking on a GPU:

1) They employ ECC technology. This will attempt to correct errors on the memory chip (in this case caused by OC instability). Sometimes it will be able to keep up and prevent a crash but you will get degraded performance

2) The VBIOS will automatically adjust the GDDR5 memory timings according to a frequency table. As an example with my HD 7850 my score is lower going from 1250 to 1251 mhz as the timings are loosened when going past this speed. Same at 1376, 1501, etc. I run my RAM at 1375 as a result of this.

Very interesting thank you.
