hi there im gonna have a play with overclocking....

the processor is a core i7 920 revision co/c1 according to cpuz

my mainboard is a gigabyte ex58 ds4

aim is @ 4ghz using a corasir h70 cpu cooler

ive tried the following after reading a thread on here:

ratio was already 20 so left it

blck to 200

vcore to 1.275v

this alone set the cpu to 7.9ghz lol.....so i exited without saving......

i couldnt find

pll or uncore

i take it qpi 1.275 is the vcore of the qpi

i dont know anything about your board but try these. just find what you can and chage it to the following.

ratio should be set at 21 and set the blck to 170 to start with. then up it a bit at a time. then when its not stable up the vcore a bit

thanks for the reply....

my max ratio is 20

cant set it any higher than that.....

i just used :

ratio 20
bclk 200
vcore 1.275v (this is lower than auto)
vcore pll 1.8v
qpi 2.8v
uncore 3200

system wouldnt boot......

is the qpi clock ok when it goes up to around 7.9?

so shall i start with just adjusting the bclk to 200?

it was 1.28v sorry hehe...missed the 1 out :D

go to go out now so ill try the above when i get back...

the only thing that bothers me is the qpi clock thing goes from 4.8 to 7.9 i think....is this normal?

You may find 4Ghz a bit tricky with a c0/c1 with that sort of voltage, hell even some d0 have difficulty with that low a vcore. Not sure exactly what sort of ballpark vcore you need for a c0/c1 but it's more towards 1.4v I'm afraid. Hope your H70 is up to it and you can bear the noise.

the ratio should be 21

set the blck to 170 not 200 you need to be able walk before you can run

also as mentioned you have a c0 (missed that) so volts will have to be a bit higher to get to 4g's you may not even be able to get to 4ghz

Yeah you will prob find you need more voltage to get 4ghz on a co. I have a co and had to give it silly vcore to even get it to boot and could not get stable as said set bclk at around the 165-170 and then take it slowly up till you reach the limit for your vcore then up that a nocth and whatch your temps too.

hi there, all ive altered so far is the bclk

i set it to 180 x 20 which is 3.6ghz

all of the other settings ive left on auto.....

in cpuz i get:

core speed: 3780
multiplier : x21
bus speed: 180
qpi link: 3240

temps are max 73 degrees
average around 69-71 after 10 mins runnning prime

does this seem ok so far.?

cheers chris

i would leave it at that till you get a better cooler. strange how bios only lets you put in 20 ratio as the lowest i7 is a 920 with a 21 ratio, cpuz will be right

thanks for the reply....

ill see how it goes.......but yea when i see folks overclocking the i7 they all say multi x21, when i go into bios it says input a number between 1 and 20...

ive even put 21 in and it doesnt accept it.......
