Overclocking Cpu increases RAM use?

Hi,

I am not a hardcore overclocker but I have managed to overclocked my AMD Phenom II X4 965 from 3.4 GHz to 3.9 Ghz. Volt 1.475. It is stable now nice and easy.
BSOD on 4 GHZ

Overclock usage:
Temperature idles around 31 to 33 Degree
Temperature on high around 44 to 45 Degree

I use H50 Cooler for my CPU.

Only thing that bugs me is the memory usage. It uses 3 GB when I play games. When I didn't over clock it was around 2.4 GB.

I am thinking upgrading my ram to 8 GB soon. Would it affect my current over clocking? or Would it help me overclock more?

Thank you

You mean 1.475V? Without saying how you overclocked its difficult to draw any conclusions form your oc. Did you HT link ref clk? or multiplyer, whats you HTlink/CPUNB?

imo the voltage is a little high; it may be worth dropping that to limit your OC.

I would have thought it would be program dependent and not the fact you have a OC. Could you get yor CPU at different speeds between the OC and stock and monitor ram usage? Surely there must a correlation.

Sorry,
I have Gigabyte motherboard. I multiplied by 19.5. I haven't done any changes. I wrote a wrong volt. Sorry its 1.475 V.

How are you checking memory usage? It would have to be a test that is repeatable. If checked during a game it would have to be at teh exact same point.

8Gb of ram may render your overclock unstable due to the increased strain on the memory controller unless you plan on moving from 2x2gb to 2x4gb sticks. As far as memory usage is concerned I'm afraid I cant offer any help.

I'm guessing it's a C3?

The voltage is fine, they're safe up to 1.5v IIRR.

My C2 needs 1.525v to be stable at 3.8ghz. Max safe voltage for them is 1.55v.

Denebs are reccomended to not exceed 1.5v according to the AMD OC guide.

I'm loathe to add any extra voltage to my C2 and run it at 16.5 multi; 3.3ghz. I can push it up to 3.6ghz at stock however to get to 3.8 I need 1.45V. I think the extra voltage is not worth it just to get that final few hundred mhz. My CPUNB is upped to 2200, it flakes out at ~2300 at stock voltage.

I don't think the extra ram will limit an overclock as there is not any extra strain on the CPUNB. I could well be wrong.

I've had problem overclocking before using 4 sticks of ram, instead of 2 so I wouldn't specifically recommend somebody to buy more sticks of ram and try to overclock a processor to it's limit.

Thanks guys I am Looking forward to upgrade my sticks to 4GB *2 next month.

My overclock is stable at 3.9 Ghz. It's amazing. H50 is doing its job pretty nice. The reason was I added another fan into it :) I used multiplier 19.5
