Hi,

I'm about to pick up a CPU to drop into my interim ASrock DualVSTA mobo. I'd been recommended to check out 2nd hand E6300/6400s as it was felt that an E6600 wasn't good value given it's price comparison with the Q6600.

However, as a stop gap someone suggested getting an E2200 and OC'ing it. So, couple of questions if people don't mind...

1. Can I expect much of an OC on the asrock mobo with this chip?

2. Would I get better from a second hand E6000 series?

3. I planned on getting 2GB of DDR2 to replace the 2x512 unbranded that was going to go in. What would people recommend bearing in mind low budget and future use?

4. I intend to replace the mobo at some point and drop in a quad. What cooler would people recommend? Would the stock with an E2200 be OK to start with?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

I stick with Abit, Asus or Gigabyte boards so can't help you their

E2200 has higher multi (very usefull when OCing on a cheaper board) the better option for short term use
E6x00 have 2x the Cashe (will speed up applications when running) but lower multi
if a E6420 become avaliable grab it (4x cashe and low VID) - otherwise stick with E2200

Geil value ram - great compatability, tight timing, can usually get it running at 900+

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Edit: Stock cooler is ok by noisey at high rmp, get a AC freezer.
recomendations based on limited budget - but all the above will work well with Q6600

Thanks mate. I'm really tempted to go for the E2200 as a budget option. I've seen E6--- series stuff on eBay but am a bit wary about 2nd hand. I assume I can use the geil in a new mobo with a quad or whatever?

So, with a Asrock DualVSTA, and the above components what sort of OC could I hope for?

Cheers

my E6400 runs at 3.2 under the Arctic Cooler with no increase to any volts or anything. On a Gigabyte 965P DS3 just stuck the FSB to 400 and set the memory multiplier to 2x and away it went.

I would only recomend an E6400 if you can get one for the same price or less than an E2200. Otherwise just get the 2200.
