About a month ago I put out a request for help on a build, well i'm ordering the parts this week and here's what I've settled on:

MB: Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi nForce 650
CPU: E4300
RAM: Geil Ultra PC2-6400 C4
GFX: EVGA 8800GTS 320mb Superclocked
HDD: WDC SE16 500GB 5000AAKS
Cooling: Scythe Ninja Rev. B

I'm looking to overclock this a little, the last thing I overclocked though was my Barton 2500+ to a 3200+ which was a simple multiplier change (piece of cake). I'm looking to try and stretch beyond that this time. So 1 or 2 questions.

  1. Is it going to be as easy to overclock is there a bit more to it?
  2. I know I can adjust voltages, but having never done that will this setup allow me to?
  3. Is there a good guide anyone knows of that would help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah i'll be using the sticky when the time comes and I start the OC'ing process. Was hoping for just some pointers.

On a slightly different point is the motherboard a good option to get the most out of the e4300, I was hoping to get around the 2.7Ghz mark. I've read the Asus P5N-E or the Gigabyte DS3 are other options and some say a better shout than the Abit which has BIOS issues???

Opinions please ;)

i don't know about the motherboard you have but i do have the ds3p and it is a very good overclocker from what i have seen so far..

hope it helps... :D

Don't get that motherboard!!! It is far too buggy. I had one when it was launched. Sent it back for a refund after 5 days and got my DS3P instead. With the Abit my 4300 would'nt even run at stock without random rebooting, crashes, lock ups at the post screen, Sli would'nt work unless i used the 93.71 drivers. I did try a bit of clocking but it was very hit and miss. The best i managed was 3 ghz but i had to eventually reduce to 2.6ghz. This was with silly volts as well. With the DS3P i am Orthos stable at 3.4 ghz and can boot into windows at 3.6ghz although i have'nt run Orthos yet at that speed.

Your set-up is very similar to mine. Same cpu, memory and graphics card. I would get a DS3P. You will be very happy with it.

Well i'd almost made my mind up on the DS3P after trawling through numerous threads for the last hour. Not too many complaints heard and MANY happy owners.... and after your glowing review I think that pretty much seals it for me.... thanks :)

Next thing to do is get it ordered and then get clocking :D
