Currently in the process of building my first system and am interested in having a crack at overclocking. I don't intend to go for anything massive.

I havn't actualy finished building the thing yet and am mainly after some advise on how far this chip can go, easily, without any drama.

Spec (when completed)

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 2.60GHz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Biostar TPower I45
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 800MHz
Sapphire Radeon HD4850
OCZ 500W StealthXstream PSU

I'm intending to try and get the chip up to 3-3.2, and just need to know if I would have any problems doing this with the set up I have gone for.

Thanks.

I would say that you will get to 3-3.2 with ease,my e5200 o/ced to 3.4 gig on a cheapo p31 board.

I got my 5200 in an Abit IP35 pro XE mobo up to 3.125GHz using the stock cooler by simply upping the FSB so I'm hoping to get considerably more once I get some better cooling. I would have thought you'd get at least the same.

good luck!

Ironically, you have a mobo that is famed for its FSB capabilities, and a cpu that is famed for it's low FSB wall, lol!

Still, if I can manage 3.4 from an E5200 on a P35, you should be able to match at least that with superior components. My cooler is beefier though.

I got my E5200 to 4GHz 8 hours Prime stable. But it's very much the luck of the draw with these chips.

I'd aim for 3.4 initially.:)

Mine is running on really low voltage on a conservative overclock now to keep heat down.
Board is an old DS3P 965 with DS4 heatsinks, only using 1.21v in bios for 3.33ghz, 1.25v for 3.5ghz.

I would change RAM for C4 from GeiL (click me!)

Try get few pounds more for better cooling as well.

And maybe a CPU if you can afford e7200.

You can scratch few quid off a motherboard and get cheaper one, even older P35s will hit 3.6ghz without issues (60-90GBP range of P35/P43 is decent enough for this setup).

Other than that , 3.2-3.4 shouldnt be a problem even tho AF7 is not the best cooling out there.
