Guys,

Wouldnt mind your expert opinions and insights on a thing or two ;-)

Just bought the following last week:

Gigabyte 965P DS3 Rev 3.3
Core Duo E6600 - cooled by Arctic Freezer Pro
4GB (4x1GB) Geil Ultra DD2R
Antec p190 - I know its a lot of money for a case but it will last me forever...(well...for a few upgrades I hope)

At the first attempt, I currently have this thing running at 3Ghz stable - but I think more can be had from this chip.

Idle Temps are around 29 -35c (depending on room temp) and top out at about 46c under load. This is in a very warm room too..I have increased the voltages slightly - as outlined in this thread

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17610180

What should I expect to realistically get out of this chip considering the environmental conditions and the hardware I've bought? Power isnt an issue as the p190 has 1200W of it.

Thoughts guys..?? Anyone with the same setup got any success stories?

Oh, running an X1800XT at the mo - may shell out for a 2900XT 1024MB next week ;)

Should be able to see 3.4GHz with ease in reality :)

Oh, and don't waste your money on the 1GB 2900XT, if you want a 2900XT get the 512MB (why pay £100 odd more for 3% performance increase), or "if" you have money to burn, get an 8800GTX/ULTRA.

How much quicker will the Geil memory go without putting in a further divider?

I like my ATI cards to be honest (Die hard fanboy) The GTX is too expensive ...but the 1GB 2900 in real terms is only £65 quid more than the 512MB card! I do like my games at 1600X1200 with AA too :)

Still keeping my options open for now though!!

1600x1200 with full AA will be fine on the 512MB, I run 1680x1050 without a problem on mine :)

What GEIL memory do you have, what speed is it rated for, what timings, and what voltage?

Its almost impossible to say how far the RAM will go, some batches clock well, some not so well. For instance, sticking within the bounds of my RAMs voltage range (2.1-2.4v) my OCZ PC8500 (533MHz stock) will rise quite comfortably to 595MHz, taking the voltage up to 2.5v gets me right the way up to 625MHz, all on stock timings (5-5-5-15).

It's this stuff here

I'd be surprised if it wouldn't do 450MHz with a little extra voltage, possibly higher if you drop to 5-5-5-15. My old DDR1 GEIL PC4400 were good clockers, so I wouldn't expect the new stuff to be any worse build quality.
