Hey all,

I'm overclocking an E6600. Gigabyte DS3 and 2x 2Gb Patriot PC8500. Now it's currently at

FSB 320
Multip x9
Vcore 1.45
Vmem 2.1
+1 on Nbridge

Firstly I can't change the memory settings other than the memory divider setting.

Secondly I boot it up (running vista 64) and running CPU-Z it is being really odd. The bus/FSB are 320/1280 as set, but the multiplier keeps changing between x6 and x9 (1.92GHz and 2.88GHz).

Obviously I want it to stay at x9, but can anyone explain why it's not, and keeps alternating between the two?

Thanks

Neil

ok, i'm a nub. I just found somewhere on the forum that ?speedstep will keep changing the multiplier to reduce heat. doh!

edit: altho advice on what/how to set the memory settings at would be much appreciated (Patriot PC2-8500 rated at 5-5-5-15) - how do i make the bios run the mem at those settings?

It's been a while since I overclocked an E6600, but I guess for PC2-8500, I'd set the DRAM speed to 800MHz prior to overclocking the CPU, and then it would run faster when the FSB is increased. If you went for a 3GHz clock (which should be reasonable for an air cooled E6600), you would be pushing the FSB from 266 to 333. As a result, if the memory had been set to 800MHz before the overclock, it would end up as 1000Mhz after (which isn't far short of the 1066 speed it's rated at, and wouldn't make any significant performance difference, but would leave the RAM running at a safe speed.).

Interesting about the CTRL + F1 I forgot about that and I'll think I'll look at that when I get home.

Thinking of changing my DS3 V1 board to a newer 775 board for my Q6600
