Im trying to overclock my e6600, and the maximum I can reach is 3.2 - 400 x 8. When attempting o/c to 3.6 i can just get to the Vista loading screen and the rig restarts. RAM - 4gb Cellshock @ 1Ghz, so i presume it is the ram holding the high overclock back? Any help on this would be appreciated. :)

Try 400x9 (3.6ghz) with your ram @ 800mhz (1:1). It sounds like it could be a lack of vcore or an FSB limit (450x8).

Hi fella,

Im on Asus PK5 Deluxe mb which has more than enough headroom fsb wise. I will have to try different vcore tonight. What vcore is correct for a stable o/c at 3.6? Looking into a different cooler, was using a Arctic cooler freezer 7, but it is damaged at present, so im back on stock cooler. Ouch. What do you recommend?

Sounds like its deffo a vcore (or lack of it) problem then. Each cpu is different so it its all bit trial and error and no one can tell you exactly what vcore your cpu is going to need to get stable. It might also be an idea to run your memory at stock and only run 2gb to eliminate a memory configuration problem allowing you to concentrate on the cpu alone - once you figure the best settings for your cpu you can raise thememory back up and add the other 2 sticks - this will help you when you come to troubleshooting your instability problems.

As for the heatsink then something like the thermalright ultra or scythe ninja are top coolers and should perform well with most setups. Stock heatsink is dire for overclocking so I would change that as a matter of urgency.

Thanks for the ideas mate, the stepping of the cpu is one of the first batch of e6600 from what i can rerember, so should clock well. "tweakinfreak" what temps are you getting on that cooling setup you have advertised :) I mite prurchase that today

Well on my E6420 I was 29 idle 50 under Orthos!

But when I put my E6600 I think I went a bit AWOL with the Artic silver 5 and I idle at 45 and 60 under load but I'm putting the Scythe fan on tonight and sorting out the bath of AS5 I put on :)

Temp are still fine as I would never hit 60 24/7 with the app's and games I use but I like to keep things cool!

Will post temps later here if you like once I'm done ;)

Voltage can easily go up to 1.6v, although many don't like going that high. Also, keep an eye on temps as you increase voltage. Start getting worried if it exceeds 60 degrees
