Overclocking easier than expected!

Just thought I'd share my recent experience of a quick and easy overclock. Haven't really done much OCing before - in fact my last machine back in the day was an Athlon 1.2GHz overclocked to a massive 1.3Ghz (if I recall correctly that left me with temperatrues somewhere in the high 60s, possibly low 70s).

So recently I thought it was time for a quick and cheap upgrade - for a grand total of aprox £360 I bought from OCUK a B-grade Asus P5B, E1240 (cheapest current intel dual core), 2GB OCUK value RAM, a nice new Samsung Spinpoint 500gb, plus an Antex case and a cooler whose name I can't remember.

I'd kind of hoped to get some small overclock (similar to the old athlon was what I expected. So I'm kind of amazed that I've got the FSB running at 350 up from 200. Which basically means that a CPU that should have been running at 1.6Ghz is happily ticking along at 2.8GHz and yet the temperatures aren't even out of the 50s. Incredible really. So thanks all for the guides and other sources of info.
 
No, the cooler I'm using is one of these: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775 - seems pretty good for £17) and the voltage is nudged upto 1.35v but that's it. And if I'm honest when I was first playing around I'd just got the voltage set to 'auto' and it seemed find like that all the way up to an FSB of 360.


Edit: Sorry should also say the memory is running at something like 875Mhz or there abouts. Had to nudge the voltage on that upto 1.9v from 1.8.

Good results and you have very similar components to what I am using. You may be able to get another 400MHz out of that chip (3200MHz total speed) but that will probably involve raising the chips voltage a few notches up to 1.4000vCore

Lol ignore the temps btw, these screen was taken while I had an unlapped cooler and my two rear case fans weren't working. Still just goes to show that they can run stable when so hot!
 
Wow, those are hot temperatures! I think I'd be too scared to go there. Though I must admit I'm quite tempted to try and get to either 3.0GHz or a 100% overclock (3.2Ghz). On the other hand I do quite like the fact that my sytem runs nice and cool plus I'm quite happy with a 75% overclock (certainly beats the 8% I squeezed out of my old Athlon!)
 
Congrats mate, I'm going to give my new quad a go, bit of a novice, but I've found a guide with the same motherboard and same processor, so I think a little bit of reading is in order.
