I have got Gigabyte Ex-58 Extreme motherboard with Core i7 Processor 2.66ghz and 6 GB Kingston DDR3 2000mhz ram. I have tried to overclock throught bios but system becomes unstable especially the ram. Once I use profile 1 or 2 for ram overclocking it especially doesnt work whereas CPU overclocks well till about 3.0ghz. Can some one help me with overclocking the RAM in extreme memory profile. thanks

Hi there, Welcome to the forums :)

When you try to overclock the CPU, what speed is your RAM trying to run at? Also, what changes have you made in the BIOS (apart from BCLK)? For example, have you changed the cpu core voltage?

the ram runs at 1066 only , and i don't change much things in bios because it is supposed to do automatically while I select like profile 1 or 2 in extreme memory profile.

Right that motherboard is pretty good and your Ram sounds really good too. So that is a good place to start from.

Could you do me a favour and post an image of your CPU-z - I would like to see what ram it is you are running so I can find out what the XMP profiles are. You say you have two.

One big thing you need to understand when using a XMP profile is that to achieve the dram overclock there have to be changes made to other components on your system. The main one is the CPU. Now as I have said time and time again. No two CPU' are the same. Some have better BLK clocking than other. Some have a better QPi ability than others. Some have better un-core than other. You get my drift yeah. The point is maybe the problem is not with your ram but with your CPU.

What is the voltage of your CPU. Maybe it is a good idea to post all the voltages of your system when you try to enable the XMP.

I have subscribed to this thread. :)
