Hi guys

I have a ocUK pre built ultima viper system i7 950 overclocked at 4 ghz (by overclockers uk themselves). Today I was just browsing the net and all of a sudden my system turned off. I turned it back on and the monitor won't come out of standby. So I turned off the mains and turned it back on. The pc started and I got an error message " your overclock has failed! Press F1 to Run SETUP Press F2 to load default values and continue"

I went with F2 and the pc started ok. I have since used occt and the system doesn't over-clock any more and just stays at 3.07ghz.

I'm not sure why this has happened. I usually play cod black ops and medal of honor at max settings and the system has never crashed, I find it quite surprising that it down while browsing the internet.

you'd want to restart and F1 into bios. depending on the motherboard, most will go back to the previous overclock if u simply go to the overclocking screen, save and exit.

that will put you back to 4GHZ. you can disable auto restart on fail so if a BSOD happens you'd at least see what's going on.

I asssume it's purchased recently, if so should just contact ocuk directly with more info.

Thanks for the reply. Its an asus motherboard and I purchased it just under a month ago. Will give it a go.

Cheers!

if it doesnt revert you back to 4ghz, the settings are likely saved in the bios, jus load it.
without further info it's hard to tell if the overclock is the real culprit.

Just tried going into the bios but can't find the saved settings.. don't really want to mess around with the overclock as I'm inexperienced (its the Ai American megatrends utility).

There should be a menu in the BIOS which you can enter where the OC profile is saved. I don't use an Asus board but on mine I need to press F12 to access the saved profiles.

Thanks for the reply.. tried pretty much all Fs but can't get to the saved profiles. Anyone got an Asus P6X58D-E?

how to access the saved overclocking profile in the bios.

Cheers
In the bios there a section called TOOLS, it's 2nd to last i think. Look in there and you'll find "Asus OC profile" or very similar. If you've got any saved bios settings they should be found in there, slots 1 - 8. I hope for your sake they've named them!

If there's anything else let me know :)

Found it. Seems to be working now ! thanks a lot for your help.

Just wondering if there is something wrong with the cooling. Just did a stress test (occt) and the cpu temp is hitting around 68C. Idle around the 40C mark. Is this normal?

Perfectly fine don't worry. CPU max is 100c (altho you wouldn't want to run it at that 24/7), anything around 70 - 80c under a stress test is good, real world use unless using 8 threaded uber apps you're likely to be around 50 -60c.

Result
