Specs:

AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core CPU
Kraken x61 280 Water cooler
ASUS M5A97 R2.0.
8GB
MSI Radeon R9 390x 8GB
Corsair RM Series RM 850 '80+ Gold' 850W Power Supply

I launched BIOS and noticed there are automatic tools for OC. I selected performance and restarted the computer. The CPU is now running at 4.4GHz which is a nice .4 more.

I thought that the process was to easy, however, when stress testing in OCCT using CPU option; it "quacks" and tells me there is an error but nothing more (almost instantly). I then do a power supply stress and it will fail with an error 20mins in. "there was an error, but nothing more" I looked at the graphs but do not see anything obvious.

Any ideas?

Also how far have you overclocked a FX to (100% Stable). I will learn how to do it manually if it is worth it.

with only 4+2 phase power, i would not be overclocking an 8core on that board. i would think your getting throttling from the motherboard, i would also think you will get throttling at stock speeds.

I do not know much about motherboards, however, I have never had any crashes or freezes apart from when I was Using afterburner to mess with my graphic card.

I check temp etc and there are no problems there either. HWMonitoring and game recordings show the other components working how they should be. I was just wondering why playing Skyrim with 2k and 4k tectures seems to be fine, however, OCCT fails large data sheet at 1min. 16sec.

your v core looks to be dropping around 1.25v in testing. you need 1.4(ish) for 4.4Ghz

i would 99% say your problem is power phase

You need to enable load line calibration (LLC) in the bios. Then try the CPU voltage at 1.42V approx.

my VCORE is now between 1.31 - 1.44.

Testing i have done:

Prime95 - 10min - Pass

CPU:OCCT: 30min - Pass

now doing a LINPACk test for 30min

My LLC is not enabled because my system seemed to crash with it on(I could be wrong and it could have been something else).

I have managed to get more stable on auto.

EDIT: 30min LINPACK test - Passed

1hr Prime95 test will be next and then Ill have a checkpoint.

You neeed to watch temps whilst running something like Prime95 because your board could be throttling and Prime95 won't crash, that's why occasionally Prime95 will pass with flying colours but lesser stress tests won't.

Google "amd bulldozer and piledriver overclocking guide" and the first result is the guide I followed to overclock my 8320 to 4.6 GHz on that board.

Yea, leave LLC on "auto". For some reason it doesn't seem to work on any other setting.

Try adding a small fan over your vrm heatsink. It helped to stabilize my oc. Also add a fan to the back of your motherboard blowing on the cpu socket if you can. It will help lower temps on that board.

Good luck!

i have tried to oc my 8350 with that board which is what i currently use and gave up as it just kept crashing, it doesnt have the right power phase as said above by p4clock
