Hello, decided the time has come to clock my cpu.

here is how it went...

restarted windows
entered BIOS
change multi from 17.5 to 18.5
went to exit, saved it. comp restarted.. then wouldnt boot from the start screen (i couldnt even get into bios.. it just "hang" there).
so i removed CMOS Battery, then restarted, and everything is fine now.

did i do somthing wrong ?, do i need to add voltage aswell as change multi ? at the same time.

or do i need to change NB FREQ aswell ?

i thought the whole idea of a FX BE chip was there easy to clock :D

any help/ ideas would help, thank you :)

Hi there,

I recently bought one of these and having it running near 4.9ghz, there not particularly hard to overclock. However im not particularly familiar with Giga boards, have gone with Asus for some time now and also not entirely sure how suitable your board is for overclocking, but I think you should achieve a mild overclock atleast.

First things first and that is make sure Cool and Quiet and the C1E setting are set to disabled. These can usually be found in a bios section called CPU Configuration or something similar.

Also if your board has a Digi + Power Control Section navigate there and apply these...

CPU Load Line Calibration - Ultra High (or the second from the highest)
CPU Current Capability - 120

Also make sure AMD Turbo Core Technology is set to off.

Now I think you should be able to get 4.2ghz out of the board, no problem, the average for these chips is a lot higher.

So try a multiplyer of 21 giving you 4200mhz

Now for the CPU voltage change it to manual mode if its in offset mode and go in for 1.46 volts. May sound a little high but is perfectly safe, we will reduce it down if we get these setting stable.

Now hopefully you should be able to boot into Windows no problem with these settings. Use a program like CPUZ to see what you have in OS, a program CPUID HWMonitor to keep an eye on temps.

Now use something like AMD Overdrive and its built in stability test and maybe OCCT to make sure the CPU stable, I don't like Prime95 for FX chips at all really.

If its stable and temps are fine and everything start reducing the voltage a little at a time and test again, until you find the lowest stable voltage you need for those settings.

I also would like to know how to and maybe give OC'ing my 6300 a go......because to be frank im totally lost on how to do it

My Mobo is the ASUS M5A99X EVO ...i have to admit that a while back ( few months ) i did try the TurboV Software but all I got was 4.0Ghz which is actually lower than my CPU runs when im doing any tasks like being on BF3 it goes from about 3.8 to like 4.1

But as I said ...I wouldnt have a clue as to what to do and how to do it
