Hi guys

i am thinking of oc'ing my sapphire 5850, but have some questions as to whether ..
a) would i see much improvement fps wise??

and

b) would i mess the sound card i have installed underneath it??

Reason i ask is because the only pci slot i have spare on my mobo is directly underneath the graph card, and with oc'ing the gpu would it produce more heat which would then radiate onto the soundcard???

If i up the fan speed on the card to 35% it gets quite noisy, which is daft really as i have it at 25% now and its as quiet as a quiet thing in the land of quiet!!

Thanks guys

well i did, and flashed the bios with the new settings. (GTX 260)

i also changed the fan settings, at idle ive decreased the speed, at load ive set it to come on earlier and faster to keep the damm thing cool enough. i found that at 69c it wouldnt be happy so by increasing the fan speed earlier it never gets that hot.

ive seen improvement in frame rates but its used mainly for crunching seti. so my shaders are overclocked further using software. for crunching im upto

core,shaders,mem:692,1589,1202.

a little less for games.

yep noiseY. also had to add a big air intake fan which is even noisier!

cant comment on the 5850 as to how much more heat it will produce. but i would say give it ago see what happens - you can always return to stock if you dont get on with it. (i bet you stick with it when yousee the performane increase) i find all these things a bit addictive, once i start to oc - i cant stop until i hit the limits!

by the way you might get more response in the graphics cards thread.

I am not sure what it compares to a 9800GX2 as ive read these cards are bad for dispersing heat and i can see what mine idles around 70.C so maybe oc'ing this card would hurt it. Ill keep hehe
