Hi guys,

I just finished building a new machine - thanks everyone that gave advice on this - and was setting about overclocking it.

Processor i5 2500K
Cooler Corsair A70
Case HAF X All fans (Except VGA holder populated)
Diamond thermal paste used
Motherboard Asus p8z68-V (Bios flashed up to 0902)
RAM Corsair XMS3 8gb 12800 1600mhz
GPU Saphire ATI 6950 Toxic (Flipped the switch but need to figure out how to test if it's done the business)

I've currently clocked the CPU at 4.5Ghz. I set the miltiplier to 45, edited the CPU voltage to 1.3v and hey presto, working.

I then ran a stress test using Intel Burn test Maximum Ram 5 time and it didn't have any problems, temps didn't get higher than 65*c and at idle around 27*c.

I'm quite content with that overclock of the CPU for now and content with the temps I'm getting. My questions really are now two fold, How do I test the 6950 if the flipping switch has unlocked it to 6970 speeds and what about overclocking the memory... is it really worth it? Are there any good guides on here or elsewhere how to do it?

Thank you all very much for your advice and assistance in advance.

Confirmed my 6950 Toxic successfully unlocked to 6970.

I tried to up the multiplier to 46 but for a blue screen when stress testing it, gonna try and up the voltage a bit and see if that makes it more stable and play around with it.

Currently with multiplier at 45 giving 4.5ghz speeds I'm getting Temps currently idling at 22*c and under load using Intel Burn I'm getting a fair bit of variation between the cores. One is 61*c, 60*c, 55*c, 56*c which is a bit odd? Or at least it seems odd. Is it normal for these to vary so much in the temps?

I have my 2600K at 4.6GHz with 1.38V Vcore. I don't know how much difference hyperthreading makes as I am waiting for my watercooling setup before I try any different options.

On my chip, temps vary by about the same amount. I've had HWMonitor (from cpuid.com) running for the last 24 hours while folding, and my max temps are 60, 64, 64, 59. I don't think a small variance like that is a problem. 10 degrees difference and I might start looking into reseating the cooler with different thermal paste :)
