Overclocking help wanted on a MSI865PE Neo2-P
SYSTEM SPECS:
CPU - P4 "Northwood" 3.4Ghz
Memory - 4 * 512Mb Kingston HyperX DDR 3200
Mother Board - MSI 865PE Neo2-P
GPU - ATI x1950 Pro AGP 512DDR3Mb
I know! It's an old skool piece of technology now, so why bother
Same ole story really.. Cant afford an upgrade so now's the time to Squeeze all the available juice out of this ageing rig.
Ok, so naturally I've had this board long enough to actually try and toy around with the bios settings to overclock the memory and cpu.. but, I've come here for help because something ain't right.
I've got a HIS x1950 Pro which is already OC'd to the max (so they say) so I don't think I need to try and toy around with that. All I would like to try and achieve is more speed combined with a solid and stable gaming performance when it comes to tweaking the memory and the cpu.
I went to Kingston's website and downloaded a pdf with all the tech specs and timing references. 2-3-2-6-1 @ 2.6v
Upon saving the settings and quitting the BIOS the system reboots 4 times and returns to the previous default settings. I went to MIS's website, got the latest bios, still no joy. I downloaded the motherboard manual to see if it could help shed some light on the subject.
The other things I've tried are:
Changing the performance mode settings in the Bios. Any other option I select besides from normal either makes the system blue screen just as it loads in to windows, or rebooting 4 times before returning to the previous setting.
Adjusting the FSB in the bios. This also causes the system to reboot because it also changes the memory clock Mhz.
The only thing that seems to be working as far as overclocking goes is enableing the D.O.T. Range and setting it to Colonel. So far this works and the system is stable.
So it's got me thinking. Either I am not reading the overclocking guide correctly, or I have a faulty bit of memory?
What do you think?
Current 3DMark 06 score:4122 (D.O.T enabled, ATI 7.12 Drivers) - Ranked 18th on identical system config.
