as the title says, i have a Q6600 and a P5Q Pro. Its running at stock at the minute, mainly due to me being lazy! what do you guys think i should get out out of it, i have a Arctic Cooler 7 pro also. and also, if possible, could someone tell me what i should put in. multipliers etc

im in mac os x, so what programmes can i use to see temps etc after i have done it?

Depends on your RAM i suppose. I have a Q6600 (G0) and a p5Q standard, 4GB Geil 6400. also an arctic 7 pro with Arctic Silver 5 paste. These are my settings:

FSB: 333
Multiplier: x9 (= 3 Ghz)
CPU Voltage: 1.31v
RAM Frequency: 667mhz (downclocked from 800mhz)
1st Timings: 4:4:4:12
RAM Voltage: Auto

Everything else is left as standard. I also turned off various processor options to stop the multiplier being throttled. So i end up with a very stable 3.0Ghz processor, 1:1 ratio with the RAM, fairly tight timings and my CPU idles at 33C in a 22C ambient temp room. Gaming load stays under 45C and Intel Burn test tops at 62C.

Ill do a little research into the OSX temp programs...im in vista 64.

well i have 4GB GeIL 800Mhz. You should be able to downclock yours as i have with mine (667mhz means 1:1 ratio with FSB with 9x multiplier) but thats entirely up to you. I would try my settings on your processor, leave the RAM as stock for now and see how it runs.

Then if all is good, and you feel like tighter timings, try downclock your RAM and change your timings to what i have. Won't make a massive amount of difference mind, the 1:1 ratio thing is good in theory and provides 'better stability' (again, in theory)

remember these arn't extreme OC's, just what ive found to be cool and stable on Air cooling. Hope it helps!

Oh, and this should measure any temps you need to http://www.techspot.com/downloads/2834-temperature-monitor-for-mac.html
And this will help with any fan control i think (don't quote me, im not into Macs...;-) http://www.coolosxapps.net/2006/11/22/fan-control-11/
