Hi just trying to get a bit more out of a new system but need a little advice about the best way..

mb = Gbyte GA-G33M-DS2R Mobo
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-091-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=
cpu = Intel PentiumDCore E2160 1.8GH
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-152-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=793
mem = 2x1G Elixir DDR2 1066 - PC8500

In the bios the cpu multiplyer is set to a max of x9 to give 1.8Ghz.. Tried using the Gigabyte Easytune5 s/w which allows you to overclock but even if you save the settings and tick the "autoload last save on next reboot" it never does..

In easytune5 the the default settings for 1.8GHz are:-
CPU Memory PCI
freq 200 800 33
volts 1.3V 1.9V
ratio x9

and I tried changing the settings for 2Ghz to:-
CPU Memory PCI
freq 244 976 33
volts 1.3V 1.9V
ratio x9

which seems to run ok except that it returns to default after a reboot!! cpu temps are around 25degC for either setup.

May be there is a better way to do this and what speed should I expect to get out of this cpu?

Any advice would be most appreciated..

Thanks

Ideas for overclocking on the GA-G33M-D2SR??

Hi

Can anyone give me some ideas for overclocking on the GA-G33M-D2SR?

Thanks
:(

Don't bother with the software overclocking.

Update your Bios to F7 http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=13191
Don't try the F8a Beta Bios as it sets CPU Fan to permanant 100 Percent !

Enter your bios and goto Advanced Bios Features

I set the following to Disabled:
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2)
CPU EIST Function

Then exit and that screen and enter MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)

CPU Host Clock Control ENABLE

PCI Express Frequency(Mhz) 101

System Memory Multiplier (spd) 333

System Voltage Control Manual

DDR2 Overvoltage Control - at Normal it sets your mem at 1.8 Volts so check the voltage rating of your mem and increase accordingly EG my mem is rated at 2.2 volts so I set 0.4 to get 2.2 volts

CPU Voltage Control Start off at 1.30000 and when your overclock becomes unstable increase in small increments (max I will ever go on air is 1.47500

CPU Clock Ratio 9x

CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) Try 312 for 2.8 Ghz

Check what your Memory Frequency (Mhz) shows as now, aim for staying below 1033 for now if it is under thats ok if over drop down to the next step 266 on the System Memory Multiplier (SPD)

Exit and select exit and save setup

If you boot ok and get into windows then run some of the O/C tests to check for Stability

If it starts to boot then re-boots itself resetting you O/C settings back to default then re set them and take the next step up on your cpu voltage and try again.
I would try up to a max of 1.4000 and if still no good start dropping the CPU Host Frequency in steps of 20 until your stable.

If all is well then up your CPU Host Frequency in say steps of 10 until you are happy or become unstable then its a case of upping the CPU Voltage a little more.

CPU Host Frequency in the mobo manual but in Bios think it comes under FSB setting but not been in bios for a few days so can't remember but you will spot it ok.

Hope that helps

Good Luck

Thanks again for the info.. Running sweet at 2.8GHz with your setting, but I'll see if I can get a little more out of it.. Just out of interest were your settings for a Intel PentiumDCore E2160 1.8GH?

Cheers

Having an issue with my ds2r

Im using a q6600 g0

I am also using OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2

I have set the timings to their 5-5-5-18 factory spec, but it wont bite
everytime it craps out at the bios memory test before boot then resets

any ideas:o
