my first post so ill start by saying hi:Dive joined this forum hoping to gain some knowledge on o/c'ing as im a complete novice,im a keen gamer and want to get the best out my system as the missus has put a halt on my pc funds:eek:.my system is as follows:-
intel Q6600 (oc'd to 2.6ghz lol)cooled with akasa evo blue.
asus striker extreme m/b.
2x1gig corsair ddr2 800mhz xms2 mem (paired).
asus 8800gts (oc'd using riva tuner).
X-FI platinum sound.
all ive done to get 2.6ghz is raised the fsb in the bios,if i try to get anymore out of it my comp locks up so i had a read up and tried the following, raised the fsb to 1332 (333x4),ram ratio1:1,ram voltage 2v,v-core 1.35 comp wouldnt start and had to clear c-mos and start again:rolleyes:,your all probably thinking moron at the mo so any help will be very much appreciated:)ideally id like to run at around 3ghz,ive also had no probs heat wise.once again hi and thanks for any help:)

ive just had a good read at the overclocking guide that is sticky'd and printed it off for future reference (great guide btw:))now i was reading the comments and someone asked about mem ratio or something,in my bios i have it linked so when i increase my fsb my mem increases from 800mhz to what ever, couldthat be the problem im having?

OK....success:)well sort of,ive taken it to 2.8ghz no probs, mem v 2.1 cpu v 1.35.ran 3dmark06 no probs, ran it once more before taking it further and BANG!!!:eek:my psu bought it:mad:really loudly aswell, ive just put an old 400w psu in to make sure my comp aint dead and to post this so im getting a new psu tmrw by the looks of it.i was using a win power 500watt psu,is it supprising it went pop?i will be getting better lol, maybe 6-700watts?anyway thanks for the reply m8;)

im on a bit of a budget:(
and you say a good 520watt....so it didnt go pop because i was pulling more then the 500watts then? it was extremely hot.

ahh makes sence, think that psu cost me £15 from computer fair so it was a cheap nasty one,and that was couple years ago.i did have a jeanteck storm700watt which cost me £80 but i returned it cos of the crazy fan noise:rolleyes:

out of them ones you linked i would reccomend the corsair only.

oh and just so you know i dont think you are allowed to post links like that i know you not allowed to post links to other shops soo i assume the popular auction site ( as its called on here ) also counts as no go.

removed links;)
going to comp fair tonight and spending around £60 on a psu so should get something good for that, any particular specs i should be looking out for?....seems to have turned into a what psu thread sry :( i missed out on the corsair one btw :(

i think i may have made a mistake, only psu that was something like at the fair was a EZcool ps-900 700watt tornado for £45,it certainly has the spec i think but its running pretty hot under load at stock settings.anyone tried these psu's?i had to get one because i needed my comp up and running urgently,on the plus side its an extremely quiet psu with a total of 40amps across dual 12v rails,im thinking its not actually dual rails though cos it fully supports crossfire and sli,and ive read that some psu's boast 12v dual rails but infact are single rail, ive also read that dual rail psu's dont work with crossfire or sli systems?which is why im thinking this psu may be single rail:confused:like i say if anyone has dealings with either this particular psu or any psu from the EZcool range i would like to know what you think, ive also taken onboard what you have said and when the time is right i will purchase a more reputable psu like the corsair;)

sorry to be a pain chaps,i wasnt happy so ive got myself a jeantech absolute 1000watts jobby and if that dont do the job ill set myself on fire, ill keep the EZcool for spare.now back on subject i havi my comp overclocked to 2.7ghz with mem linked at a ratio of 3:2 which give me 800mhz on the mem, vcore set to 1.35v and memv 2.1v and multiplyer at 9,am i correct in saying the memory should be kept at 800mhz?if so how do i do it?i want to run at 1333 fsb so how do i set the memory?and should the multiplyer be changed?sry for noob questions chaps:rolleyes:once i get this baby to 3ghz ill be happy:D
