Overclocking help?

Hi, Right I am a complete n00b when it comes to overclocking and I dont really have a clue...I have read the guides etc however its always good to get some independent advice!!

My current system is...

Gigabyte 965P-DS4
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
Gainward GeForce 7950GT 512Mb
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz CAS 4-4-4-12
Tagan 600W PSU
Freezer Pro 7 Cooler

by the way I'm looking to overclock the processor and RAM mainly, I've already overclocked the gfx card slightly but its quite good as it is
 
It's an easy chip and board to clock with.

Set your Memory Multiplier to x2.0 (you can worry about getting your memory to 800mhz when you've finished clocking your CPU), the vcore (CPU Voltage Control) to 1.4v, both FSB and (G)MCH voltages to +0.1v, and then start upping your FSB til it needs more vcore.
 
Also don't set the vcore to +1.4 but to whatever + to get it to 1.4 ie +0.075, I also always set the PCI-E frequency to 101.

Well I set all that and had it at 2.7Ghz and then my CPU idled at 50 degrees which I know isn't good...so I've set it back. I think I need some new thermal compound and maybe a better cooler before I try overclocking!!
