Hey all. I want to overclock my CPU, I had no past experience in doing so. I have a E6550 and MSI Neo-2 mobo. I'm using air cooling, the air circulation is very cool inside my case.

Could anyone tell me how much I can expect to overclock it and how to actually do it?

Cheers.

I couldn't find a CIE/Speedstep feature to disable in BIOS. I couldn't edit the vcore, it wouldn't allow me. It was set on 1.300 by default, the VID in CPU-z was 1.350.

Maybe I overlooked that feature, but I really couldn't find it. =\

Ok, I get the general idea now of what to do, im fairly confendent now.

But what exactly is CIE/Speedstep, what does it do?

I just need to find out how to change my CPU Voltage, because at the moment it won't let me. =\

And is 65/70 the max tempertaure most people allow it to get to on full load? Or is that just the beginning of safe?

Edit: One more thing, isit always best to set the CPU Multiplier to the highest it can go to?

Oh right, I didn't know speedstep was also know as EIST. So, found that and it's disabled. I still don't know how I can change my cpu voltage, it just won't allow me to. =\

Is there an option/feature I have to disable to let me change it?

We'll I've got it to 2611.51 MHz stable, 65c on load.

Think I'll push it a bit more to 70c stable and call it a day. :D

So apart from increasing the FSB, what other variables will help me achive a higher clock?

Ok, well stable @ 2.94GHz, I'd really like to push it to 3 and call it a day. :D

I goes fine for 15 minutes in prime @ 3.00 GHz, temps are both 68c. Then it shuts off. Would it do any good increasing the CPU Voltage, or best to just call it a day? Although I can't edit my CPU voltage, I'd need to find out how it make it allow me if needed.

Well, I uped the cpu voltage a bit. I goes for about 20minutes in prime, then everything just locks up. I don't know if theres anything I can change to keep it stable at 3.00 GHz.

The temps were about 66-68 after 20 minutes in prime, so it shouldn't lock up due to the temps right?
