Hey, I've finally decided to OC my 3570k after 6 years or so... I was just wondering if there's a difference between increasing the stock or turbo clock speeds? I've set the Turbo multiplier to 42 and benchmarks and stress tests run at 4.2ghz but just wanted to be sure I did the right thing or if I should increase the base clock as well (which iI' assuming will result in higher idle temps etc?)

Running CPU-Z bench showed SC performance Vs an i7 4790k went from about 85% to 95% and MC increased by about 25%. Will I notice a difference in games etc by just increasing the turbo clock?

That's how I ran mine for years and was happy with 4.2 GHz for an easy OC and cooler idle. If it's stable in gaming etc. then keep it that way. If it does have any issues you can set the CPU voltage to a fixed amount say 1.18 - 1.2V and still get the benefit of lower clock speeds at idle. That's what I remember as it has been a couple of years since I had the system.

I ran some BF1 last night with it at 4.2GHz and the temps were actually pretty good. 60 degrees max, and actually got a pretty decent performance boost as well. I think I'll keep the settings as they are as it seems to be doing the job!

Is there much wear on the CPU if all I did was increase the turbo clock multiplier? Stock voltages and everything (too scared to touch voltage).

As long as temps are good and voltage isn't changed, it should have no effect on CPU lifespan.

I thought that was the case. I'm thinking of bumping to 4.3/4.4. max temp at 4.2 under max load on BF1/wow was 60C. Am I getting a bit ahead of myself? Cooling is sufficient, I've got a Hyper 212 EVO. GPU also seems to sit around 70C (overclocked MSI GTX 970)
