Hi there,

I have:

  • i5 4690k
  • MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Z97
  • Raijintek EreBoss High Performance CPU

It comes with MSI Command Centre which can be used to overclock from the desktop. Is this safe to use?

Do I simply change the ratio to 44 for example then adjust the CPU core voltage to something like 1.175 as said in this guide - http://www.anandtech.com/show/8227/devils-canyon-review-intel-core-i7-4790k-and-i5-4690k/2

I would like a nice stable 4.4-4.6 overclock if possible.

Cheers

I've always been told to not overclock through software. Always through the BIOS. I thought the same when i found it on my Asus board a couple of months back.

Use this guide, you may end up needing in the 1.35 volts area for 4.6ghz each chip is different though

Half these sites don't even stability test properly I bet less than 10% of 4690k's can do 4.6 ghz + on 1.3 volts or less, 1.3 volts might be stable on certain stability tests ONLY and not PROVEN stable at those volts.A quick OCCT test proves nothing.

I'm currectly tinkering around with my i5 4690K at 4.5Ghz core on a static voltage of 1.24v on the vcore, 1.15V on the ring and at 3.9Ghz cache/northbridge and 1.8v on the vrin. trying to tinker around some more to get a nice ideal speed to voltage ratio.

overclocking the vring isn't needed there's no or little gain for doing so according to the guide http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-guide-with-statistics#

most people just leave it on 33 34 35 whatever is the default but you must set it manually not auto, the 33x is for gigabyte boards as 32x can ramp it up like auto.
