Ive never overclocked manually before

but i would like to oc my 3770k to 4.2ghz because i know it can do it. OC genie 2 does it easy but the Voltage Fluctuates a lot. (i believe it does 1.1/1.25)

i was going to do it manually, by Increasing my Multiplier to 42

But i don't know which voltage to try to start with?

my details at the moment core voltage goes from 0.940 to 0.970

great cooler but I havnt a clue on the msi boards:(

but for 4.2ghz you could just set 42x cpu multi and leave cpu v on auto, then stress the cpu in windows with prime95 blend test, and see what cpu voltage is being used in cpu-z

download realtemps aswell and keep an eye on your core temps, dont let them go above 80c and don't go above 1.4v for the cpu

you shouldn't need anywhere near that for 4.2ghz,maybe 1.25v-1.3v

Personally I would try and underclock first. I got 4.4 without increasing voltage from default but I had increased from an underclocked 3.5.
It does want far too much voltage going from 4.6 to 4.7 though so I'm happy with 4.6 for the moment. I would have pumped far too many volts into it if I hadn't found the underclock first though.

I would advise not to use auto for voltage as they can use ridiculous amounts of voltage for no reason.
