Hi I would like some advice on Icore 7 920 D0 stepping with 24g of ram please.
Background:
I bought an overclocked bundle from OcUK 2 years ago which has the above cpu on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 board with 6g (3x2g) of ram. This has been running overclocked & 4g for the past 2 years no problems.
Current:
With ram been cheap at the moment I’d thought I would change the memory from 6g to 24g so I could eliminate the use of a swap file and also enable the use of a Ramdisk. I’ve purchased Kingston HyperX Genesis 24GB (6x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel from OcUK after reading the review posted.
Features:-
Main Board: INTEL
System: DESKTOP
System Type: DDR3
M/B Chipset: INTEL X58
CAS Latency: 9-9-9-27 2N
Capacity: 6GB (4GBx6)
Speed: DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)
Test Voltage: 1.60-1.65V
Registered/Unbuffered: Unbuffered
Error Checking: Non-ECC
Type: 240-pin DIMM
Warranty: Lifetime
Problem 1:
I had to go from Windows 7 Home Premium x64 to Windows 7 Pro x64 to overcome the maximum ram limit of 16g.
I’ve done that with a fresh install.
Problem 2:
Trying to maintain my overclock and keep my system stable. I can run Intel Burn Test ok, I can also run Prime 95 ok. The maximum I left Prime 95 running for was 9hrs and it was still working.
If I run Battlefield Bad Company 2 (which I need a daily fix of) my system will lock up at random intervals, i.e after 15minutes or it could be 25 minutes. Just as I think I’ve cracked it I get a lock up.
With everything at stock in the BIOS BFBC2 runs fine, but I want my overclock back or most of it anyway.
My system was pre overclocked I’m new to overclocking Icore 7. The motherboard had BIOS version F7 when purchased but I’ve flashed it to F12 which has Enhanced memory compatibility.
My BIOS settings are:
BCLK 191 x20
CPU Drive 900mv
Performance Enhance: Standard
System Memory Multiplier SPD: Auto
Memory Frequency MHz 1066 1528
DRAM Timing Selectable: Manual
Qpi Speed Link: Auto (6.87ghz)
Uncore Frequency: Auto (3820mhz)
I’ve set:
Cas Latency Time: 9
Trcd: 9
Trp: 9
Tras: 27
Command Rate (CMD): 2
all other memory settings are on auto.
Under advanced voltage control:
Load Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU Vcore: 1.3v (needed to go to 1.35v to get Prime 95 stable for 9hrs)
QPI / VTT Voltage: Auto (1.175v)
CPU PLL: Auto (1.8v)
PCIE: Auto (1.5v)
QPI PLL: Auto (1.1v)
IOH Core: Auto (1.1v)
ICH I/O: Auto (1.5v)
ICH Core: Auto (1.1v)
DRAM Voltage: 1.660v
Rest All: Auto
I’ve taken the 24g of ram out of the machine and replaced the original 6g of ram until the weekend when I’m going to try again. I think my problem may be with the QPI Speed Link , Uncore Frequency and QPI/VTT voltage settings but would like some advice on what to do next.
