Hi all, I have my intel i5-2500k SB clocked at 4.2ghz (via software, easy to use).

CPU-Z Reports 4.2ghz and also the ram put to its 1.6ghz stock

Prime95, windows and other programs report it as 3.30ghz @ 3.29ghz. Realtemp wont report it at all.

I'm thinking that the majority are reporting 3.3GHz so maybe there is an issue? Or is it not reported properly? Any help appreciated.

If cpu-z is reporting it at 4.2ghz, then thats the speed its running at. Don't worry about what windows is saying.

Think you're right, it just worrys me you know? That so many report it running at 3.29 or 3.3ghz.

Although the truth is in the pudding, ran prime95 at 4.6ghz and max CPU temp after 5mins was 78c. Ran prime95 at 3.3ghz and max CPU temp after 10mins was 65c...

Super PI at 3.3ghz 1M was 11.6 - At 4.6ghz 1M was 8.1

So yeah that confirms it, but why is windows and other apps reporting it wrongly? It's slightly annoying when you run systemrequirementslab plugin for the new one republic beta as a system scan and it only picks up 3.29ghz? So thats what goes to the devs about my system.

Hi Fernick, I can't seem to get 4.6ghz now. Just getting blue screens after about 10 mins of prime95 and it's not heat related. Am now at 4.5ghz and system temps after an hour of prime sit at an average of 59 degrees. At 4.8ghz my temp was 73 degrees and 4.6ghz 64 degrees. So my temperatures are fine so I assume my voltages or something are wrong, or My cpu's stable limit is 4.5ghz?

My Blue screens are error 124's and on checking logs it says kernel power issue also. Maybe easier if I post a pic of my Bios page?

Mine is exactly the same and it's because certain elements of the new chips are not being identified correctly and end up being misreported. This is known to be an issue for a number of utilities which are explicitly reading the chip, and they will need an update. Programs such as Coretemp, Realtemp etc. CPU-Z is up to date regarding the sandybridge chipset/chip architecture and reports correctly.

My Windows is also the same as yours, and it's something I remember from early core 2 duo days as well.

Also, Fernick if you are hitting 78c in prime in only 5 mins at 4.6ghz, then that is a bit too much imo. It will be easy to be 4.6ghz stable, so invest in a better cooler and that will be a perfect 24/7.;)
