hey, i've had my laptop for over a year now (asus a6k, 1.6 turion64, 1gb crucial 3200 ram, nvidia 6200go 256mb gfx etc) and i've recently started to experiment with overclocking it.
I've had rivatuner on it and have found that messing around with settings has given me fairly good performance gains but i've been scared about taking it too far. So i've contacted asus and asked them about it. The helpfull chap told me to unistall rivatuner and actually informed me of an overclocking utility already on the laptop- (right click on desktop, nvidia 6200go settings). the graphics card was clocked at core- 330 mhz, memory- 630 mhz(obviously stock speeds). on one of the tabs was an overclocking option, i clicked it and had several options to choose from. i then clicked 'detect optimal frequencies' and waited several minutes. the speeds that came back were core 371mhz, memory 751 mhz.
i ran 3d mark03 before and after the changes, the stock speed score was 2516 points and after the changes the score was 3046, a fairly decent increase i think you'll agree.
The thing is, what are the chances that serious or permanent damage could occur?? the gfx core has increased in temperature from 66c to 74c (under full load) but the ambient temp of the laptop has only changed by 1 degree from 48c to 49c. the processor speed is unchanged at 54c. i've not noticed any change in battery consumption.
Does anyone know anything about the dangers of my actions (apart from the obvious) and how could i take my overclocking further? i've been told about a64 tweaker but i'm not sure it would work on a laptop? could i tweak the ram timings and possibly change the processor speed?
many thanks.
