Amateur overclocker here just wanting to ask some questions regarding my locked 2500.

- What number should I set the ratio to in the BIOS. I read up that with a locked processor you can still overclock a max of 400mhz than the highest base turbo frequency. The turbo frequency for the 2500 is 3.7ghz, so should I set the ratio to 41 in the bios?

- Would this be stable with a Raijintek Aidos? It's only a £15 cooler so I'm not entirely sure.

The chip is 3 years old.

Thanks

set it to highest it will go on the bios, the rest of the oc would be done through the bclk

maybe 104-105 would be your limit

cooling should be ok same as voltages

So do I have to adjust more than just the ratio in the bios? I watched a video and he literally just changed that number, and that number only.

you can if you want, but a locked cpu multi wont go any higher than the max ratio

you can oc a little further by raising the bclk

Managed to get up to 4.017ghz with 103 bclk. Is sitting around 3.91ghz and flickering up to the aforementioned. Temps seems to be fine I think - hovering at around 45. Should I try and go a bit further?

Yeah the ratio is set to 41. It seems a bit weird that it won't actually go up to that speed though? I have that set to 41 and the bclk set to 103 like you recommended before but it doesn't seem to go up to 4.22 like you mentioned before.

I ran a cheap Pentium at 105bclk just fine, didnt have it corrupt the os

maybe if it crashed badly it would happen due to pushing bclk too far

I got mine to 108 when I wrote that guide, then I pushed it to 109 and killed my boot sector and it took three hours for Windows to do the repair.

Just know - it's possible. Everything on 1155 is tied to the bus.

Turned the bclk up to 104.1, don't think I'll be going further as I don't wanna take any risks, it seems to be fine at the mo. Sitting mostly at 3.95ghz for the majority of the same and flickering up to 4.05ghz.

You've got four bins basically and that's it.

Also, I would be careful with the FSB it can lead to data corruption/loss if you're not careful so don't be doing it with an OS you don't want to lose.

Does this mean that 3.95ghz is pretty good for the chip that I have?

Yeah. That's about spot on. It's as close to 4ghz as you're ever going to get with a non K :)
