how to i overclock my system here are my specs

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition
Asus M5A99X EVO 990X
corsair vengance 1600mhz 2x 4gb
corsair ax850
corsair h80
msi N550GTX-Ti-M2D1GD5/OC x2
corsair 600t

i was told i need some software before i start overclocking but not sure wot

download and install

HWmonitor - monitors voltages and temperatures
CPUID - shows CPU frequency and other stuff
Prime 95 - stress testing CPU

I have almost the same system see below.

Sorry should have been CPU-Z
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Anyway set the PC in bios to 19x multiplier for the CPU to start with and when booted into windows, start CPU-Z, hardware monitor running. Then start Prime95 select just stress testing and select large FFT. leave it running for a while and check the temperatures in HWmonitor. CPU-Z will show the frequency 3800MHz. You can also check the memory frequency and the voltage vcore.

If there are no problems, you can increase the multiplier in 0.5x steps, you may need to up the voltage a little bit if it crashes, but only go up one step at a time and keep an eye on the temperatures. I would advise limiting the vcore to 1.5V even if the temperatures appear fine.

Try and keep the load temperature below 60C for this CPU.

good luck andy.

i have a corsair h80 with stock fans but i do have a cougar vortex pwm fan are they any good for going with the h80 or should i get something else

i only have 1no. off the cougar vortex pwm i was just wondering if there any good if so i would buy another, if not i will buy another 2 fans but wot

I use two akasa vipers on my thermalright TRUE air cooler which normally run at about 30-40%, fairly quiet. On full load they could get a bit noisy but using the ASUS AI suite I can control them quite well.
