Overclocking my 9800GTX+

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to overclocking. I was wondering about the videocard. I've read all sorts of people/websites saying they've managed to get the 9800GTX+ stable to a core clock of 855MHz, and shader and memory clocks that I can't remember, but I have tried. Straight off I got strange coloured pixels on the desktop. I then backed up all the clocks and went into a game (Empire: Total War) and there were several strange things happening, namely some odd shapes flickering on the screen every few seconds. I backed things up further, and I found that the most stable I could get it (tested in Empire and Flight Simulator 2004) was Core: 790, Shader: 1965, Memory: 1130. How come this is so much lower than I've read?

My system is an E7400 overclocked to 3.57GHz, 4GB DDR-800 RAM, 512MB 9800GTX+, 500GB SATA2 HDD.

Thanks in advance

most people can expect to get between 790/1900/1150 and 820/2000/1200 core/shader/mem on their 9800gtx+ as every card is different, the peeps that boast clock speeds of 855 and 890 have most likely voltmodded their cards.
hope this ansers your question

Thanks. I found it's something to do with the driver I'm using too. I went to guru3d.com and downloaded the latest beta driver and it's allowed me to overclock to 810/1965/1140.
