A nasty looking minefield
Hello got my ballistix.

As others have seen I have got it to 1300mhz on stock voltage.

Today I upped the voltage to 2.4v and managed to get 1400mhz out of it :D

Im well chuffed.

I have got a problem though.

My mates HDD was broken and had 300gb of music, photos and films.

Me being compassionate fixed it for him. However windows is SEVERLY ballsed up :O

Before it gets to the windows loading screen it shows loads of different operation systems to boot from inc the mates recovered one :S

Not looking good as each on give me BSOD (even on stock).

I have tried another HDD and it works fine.

Any ideas.

You will be rewarded with a screenie of 1400mhz. I cant to higher (motherboard wont allow it).

You say his HDD WAS broken. How did you repair it? Did you replace it?

If it were me I'd replace the broken drive, install my OS on it, then install the broken disk to see if I could recover any data off of it.

All the data is still on it.

its freaky.

p.s can I get my memory to run higher???

the motherboard only allows you to type up to 1400mhz :(

Holy christ.

Any chance you could post your OC settings?

Not just RAM, your CPU OC's pretty good too.

Also, what cooling are you using?

As for the HDD problem. Stick it in your PC and grab as much as you can off it.

are those the 5300 ballistix dude?

I snazzy dazzy

when you say 1400 mhz you mean the frequency of the mems is at 700 mhz in cpu z??
well this is a tremendous overclock,congrat :)

my kit of PC2 5300 at 2.4V does 630mhz ( DDR2 1260) and does SP1M

could you post a prtscreen of your cpu-z with the frequency of the mems at 2.4V?and could your sistem ,at that frequency, do SP1M?

thank´s

my prtsreen

Like I said when the HDD is fixed ;)

What do you mean cooling??? They arnt that hot at all. Dont like the 2.4v though.

The chip has done me well :D I got a suicide run of 4.0ghz and there is more to come

Sounds like you've clocked your system to the point of instability, resulting in a damaged/corrupted windows install.

Try giving 'system restore' a shot, roll back to the date before XP started acting up, if that fails, and presuming you have an XP install CD, boot from it and make use of the recovery console.

So where's my screenshot, at least I tried to help ya. :D

Wait, I'm confused. Did you do what I mentioned doing? If the hard drive is busted you probably don't want it as the boot drive any more. You might be able to recover data off of it if you can mount it as a secondary drive. Heck, you could leave it installed, boot off of a Live CD and see what you can recover that way. If all methods fail there forensic recovery is still probably possible but that costs serious money.

Hell the 4.0Ghz aint stable :D wont do orthos for more than 10mins :(

p.s when I go to recovery (on the xp cd) I can view all my files when I type dir

Just cant get on it.

My collection of films :(

This is very annoying. I have a bad history of HDD. Set them up in raid a bit of time ago and they failed.

They are the weakest part of the pc

Set the drive up as a slave, hopefully windows will recognize and allow you to navigate it to copy your files over to the new master.

Tbh, I doubt the drive is broke, it probably just needs reformatting.

Now where's this screenshot, I'm starting to think you were telling fibs. :p

You can think all you want, I dont personally care.

You cant set Sata hdd to master, slave.

No, but you can choose which drive to boot from through the BIOS.

Also, if your drive is 'hot swappable' then you can unplug it, power up the system, then plug it back in (I'd guess it's not a hot swap, but with the lack of details you've gave on the drive, who knows?).

Nor do I, I'm not the one with the messed up hard drive. :D
