Overclocking my CPU

So if I set my CPU Ratio to say 4.2 and my Core Voltage to say 1.25 ...that sounds OK ?

It's my first time OC'ing so I'm kinda unsure as to what way to go

Also I did muck about with the OC Genie ..and at @4GHz my idles were about 32-34c -ish ..and as I now have the OC Genie off....my idles are around 23-26c

4.2Ghz shouldnt need 1.25v if its an ok chip , I only stated that in the other thread so its a starting point. You can do it in various ways but that's the way I started.

You could set Vcore to 1.25v and CPU ratio to 45 and try boot. If it doesnt boot then increase Vcore to 1.255 and retry, if nothing then increase to 1.260v and so on until stable. It all depends on how much heat you want to generate.

You will reach a point where the extra volts required for 100Mhz increase isnt worth it. 4.5Ghz might use 1.29v for example, but 4.6Ghz might need 1.35v to be stable. When it comes to that point its better off staying on the lower clock.

Also to note theres a few more things that can be done with the OC to make it stable but I'm just giving you the basics so far. When you are trying it out you can set the Load Line Calibration to Extreme. Thats what its called in Gigabyte Bios so might be different in MSI. By default the VRIN droops which can cause instability, setting it to Extreme stops it from drooping.

OK thanx for your advice Dempsey ....I may give it a go tomorrow and see what happens


Yeah anyway I went and put the CPU Ratio to 42..left the Core Voltage as it was ....booted into Windows fine....but...CPU-Z was telling me that my CPU was still at 3400

Anyway...I've done a CMOS ..so all back to default for now
